Home Office Officials Visit FirstNet’s Reston Office

Officials from the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) hosted their U.K. counterparts from the Home Office 6 December.

The Home Office is overseeing the U.K.’s transition from a nationwide public-safety TETRA network to a planned nationwide Long Term Evolution (LTE) network for the country’s first responders.

Home Office officials visited FirstNet at its office in Reston, Virginia, according to a tweet from FirstNet Acting CEO Edward Parkinson.

“Officials from the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) regularly engage with third parties as plans to build the most advanced critical communications system in the world progress,” a Home Office spokesperson said.

In June, U.K. Home Office and public-safety officials researched the Kodiak push-to-talk (PTT) solution from Motorola Solutions for the country’s public-safety Long Term Evolution (LTE) network during a trip to the United States that included Kodiak’s headquarters in Texas and a customer site in Fairfax, Virginia.
